A short glossary of Texas Hold’em terms (Part Two)

Let’s continue with the abc of Texas Hold’em provided by poker.tv. Here our short glossary keeps going with the meaning of most used terms in the game. But if you prefer to start playing immediately go to Colosseum Poker website and have a great time!

 

F

Family pot: It’s the situation when a hand still has all the rounders in the game after the flop.
Final table: The final clash of the last nine players in a tournament.
Flop: The first three common cards on the table.
Fold: To shut down playing  a hand.
Free card: The card that comes after a hand without bets.
Freeroll: It’s a tournament free of charge (buy in).
Freezeout: A tournament with a buy in that gives some coins: when a player has lost all of them, he’s struck out and can’t continue to play (is the opposite of double chance tournaments).
Full ring (game): Table with 7 ore more rounders.  

G

Give action: A strategic repetition of little bets aiming a bigger pot.

H

Hand: I’ts about the completed round of bets, the hole cards of a player and also the score  made up by the 5 cards.
Heads up: When it’s a face to face between two opponents (one to one).
Hijack: I’ts the player who stands at the right side of cut-off position.
Hole cards: The hide cards which each player has of his own (pocket cards).

I

Isolate: To keep raising in order to press other rounders folding up and remaining in a heads up situation. It’s a tactic used to defend a good combination of cards which otherwise could lose much of its value against three or more players still in action.

K

Kicker: The lonely card that gives the win of the pots in hands without 5 scoring cards. The higher is that card the better is the hand.
Kick: To raise.
Knock: To check.

L


Late Position: The profitable situation of being one of the last players to do a bet in a table.
Limit poker: Playing with standard-set bet values.
Limp: In a hand, it’s when all the players stay active but nobody raises.
Long Shot: Winning a hand despite very low chances.

M

Main Event: In a tournament is the final stage, with higher buy in and prizes.
Middle Pair: A pair made up of the higher valued card at the flop and one hole card.
Monster Hand: Very high score, almost as nuts.
Move in: Go and see the definition of All in.
Multy way pot: A hand with several opponents still in action for the pot.

N

No pair: Hand won by a higher rated card, without any pair.
Nuts: The higher possible hand related to community cards.

O

Odds: The calculated chance to obtain a certain score.
On the bubble: Being almost struck out of a tournament, without any winning prize.
Outs: The cards which still remaining in the pack.
