Potential development of Chilean online gaming

Betting and gambling in Chile were banned from the turn of the century until 1990, but now are very popular and completely legal. In fact, the Country now boasts numerous casinos in operation. Moreover the government seems to be very open toward internet gambling. Although it does not license gaming companies to operate online sites within Chile, Chileans are not prohibited from playing on offshore gaming sites. This situation could help Chile become the Internet gambling hub for the Western Hemisphere in the near future, providing the local economy with an important new source of revenue and employment
